Excavator operator competency - What is it?
The biggest gap in worker knowledge is interaction with plant on site.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to equip our operators with the skills to stop this causing harm?

The ConstructSafe Tier 2 assessment is also a way for Excavator operators to demonstrate that they are the safest workers amongst their peers.

An industry working group has developed the Tier 2 excavator operator assessment to create one common standard.

This standard, called a Learning outcomes framework, is the base material for this assessment.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?

There is a theory assessment, and then ongoing 'in field’ assessment as you undertake work.

You will be asked 60 multiple choice questions, from which, you need to achieve a score of 85% or over pass.

You should already consider yourself a competent operator.

It should take around 1 hour to complete.

Once you pass, then the 'in field’ assessment starts.
WHY SHOULD I DO THIS?
As a worker, this assessment is a quick and simple way to prove that you are a safe operator.

You wont need to repeat the theory assessment for as long as you can prove 'in field’ competency.

You can also prove how good an operator you are, compared to other operators.

As a company, you can easily prove the competency of your operators to the same standard as other companies.

HOW DO I DO IT?
First, you need to hold the tier 1 competency. This proves that you know the basics of site safety, whilst tier 2 is about the specifics of your trade.

The assessment is touch screen and interactive; the questions are read to you, and you don’t need to write anything down.

You can book the theory assessment online with any ConstructSafe testing centre.

Once you pass, you will be assessed in the field whilst you work.

There is no cost for in field assessment. This is a way for you to show ongoing competency.

WHATS NEXT?
First; download the ConstructSafe app for free. You can prove your competency through your digital profile. You can also access free safety information.

If you want to prove another competency, for example, your supervisor skills, then you can book the Tier 3 assessment. This can pave the way for you to become an 'in field’ assessor.

If you are a company, sign up to ConstructSafe online to access trend information on your workers, and free resources to help them.

You can also help ConstructSafe to create new competency frameworks.
